Douglas Reznick '81

AlumnUS of the month

Douglas Reznick '81, MD

Alumni of the month - Reena Lazar '81JPPS-Bialik alumni live all over the world and are engaged in remarkable things. The town of Parker, Colorado, is no exception to the rule. Situated close to the city of Denver, JPPS-Bialik alum Douglas Reznick ‘81, MD, spends his days caring for those afflicted with cancer, as an award-winning hematologist and oncologist.

Most people reading this are likely wondering the same thing: how does one get from Cote St. Luc, Quebec, to Parker, Colorado? It’s actually quite simple. Following Bialik, Reznick attended Vanier College to study Health Sciences. After completing his CEGEP requirements, Reznick graduated from Concordia University with a BSc in Biology.

Like many JPPS-Bialik grads, Reznick chose to pursue higher education in the State of Israel. In his case, the Sackler School of Medicine in Tel Aviv played host to our fine alumnus. Subsequent to Dr. Reznick’s time in Israel, he moved to Denver, where he completed his residency (having been named Chief Medical Resident), followed by a fellowship in hematology and oncology at the University of Colorado.

After his formal medical education, Dr. Reznick moved back to Canada to work at the Toronto Sunnybrook Regional Cancer Centre, but he soon decided to return to Colorado in order to assume the position of Director of Medical Oncology at the Penrose Cancer Center. At Penrose, he was bestowed with an award for “excellence in community care and service.” Since 2004, Dr. Reznick has been operating a general hematology and medical oncology practice in Parker that strongly emphasizes clinical cancer
research.

Dr. Reznick is proud to be married with three children (two girls and a boy) who all attend a Jewish day school similar to that of our JPPS.

“From time to time when I drop my kids off at school, there are so many similar reminders of JPPS and Bialik. It's hard to believe that 27 years has passed. The memories are still quite fresh. Those were the good old days!”

Perhaps the most impressive aspect of Doug’s extraordinary career to date is the fact that he is a veteran triathlete(45 times!) and marathon runner (25 times!) and is personally responsible for raising over $8,000 for his cancer research foundation. Dr. Reznick dedicated his 2006 Hawaii Ironman race to all of his patients and keeps them in mind at all times.

Ponder that the next time you take the elevator.
