Bialik High School Athletics

Hello, Bulldog Fans!

The winter sports season has now come to a close for 2009-2010. Let's take a look at the past week of playoff action for our Lady Bulldogs.

PLAYOFFS

On Monday February 22nd the Bantam Girls Div 3 Basketball team took the court against a very game Study squad. The Lady Bulldogs were undermanned on this afternoon and showed great fight throughout the 32 minute contest. Unfortunately, it would not be enough as they succombed to defeat. The loss ends what was a very good season for these players as they were able to learn some valuable lessons about winning and losing. This group of girls will no doubt be better for it next year. Great job girls!!

Monday February 22nd also the the Bantam Girls Div 1 team in action as they faced off against John Rennie in the GMAA Semi-Finals. These girls who were tremendously successfull all season long were unable to keep up with the John Rennie team as they were outplayed in this contest. The loss was a dissapointing one for these girls but they will most certainly rebound and come back next year hungry for more. Congrats to these girls on a great season.

The Juvenile Girls Div 1 team entered this season with hopes of contending for a GMAA title. The season would unfortunately end prematurely in that venture as they travelled to LPHS for their own Semi-Final Matchup. The LPHS girls put on a great effort in their home gym and were able to stave off numerous rallys by our Lady Bulldogs, but alas it wouLd not be enough on this evening. These girls put in alot of effort this season and should be congratulated for their Semi-Final finish. We look forward to having a strong group represent the blue and white next season as 2010-2011 will approach quickly. Once again Congrats to these girls for a terrific season.

Finally, it was our Midget Girls Division 1 team who represented Bialik in the GMAA Championship Game at LCC on Wednesday February 24th. The girls tipped off against the best team in the league, St. Thomas. The girls would start off on fire with tough defence and key offensive possessions. As the game wore on the skill and athleticism of the St. Thomas girls would be too much for these Lady Bulldogs to handle. The girls in the end were rewarded with silver medals to cap off a successfull season both on and off the court. We look forward to seeing some of these girls in the Juvenile girls category for the 2010-2011 season. Once again Congratulations to our silver medalists!!!

INTRAMURALS

The Intramural Hockey playoffs look like this:

The Bruins will face-off against the Capitals on Monday for the right to face the Red Wings in the Championship Final. The Redwings were the number 6 seed coming into the playoffs and were able to stun the heavily favoured Canadiens in the 1 vs 6 Semi Final. Should be a great lunchtime battle on Monday March 1st.

Please visit the GMAA website and select "winter sports" for up-to-date scores and standings. Bialik is listed as "BIAL."
