English

Our English studies curriculum focuses on mastery of skills. The students progress from step to step within a whole-language context. By reading grade-appropriate books and expressing their learning through summaries, reports, and personal essays, students acquire various writing strategies and skills. Writing abilities are expanded by creative projects in the areas of art, classical music, as well as personal inventions. Writing abilities are reinforced through the integration of computers.

Hebrew Studies Program

In keeping with the educational approach at JPPS, the course of study in the Hebrew program develops in spiral fashion from pre-kindergarten to Grade 6. The core curriculum at each grade level includes four components: Language Arts and Literature; Bible Studies; Customs, Traditions, Prayer; and Teaching Israel. The Language Arts and Literature and Teaching Israel strands are closely linked with the grade level social studies core themes, to allow for integrated programming whenever possible. The study of Eretz Israel (the Land of Israel) through the unfolding of the biblical saga bridges the span between our historical legacy and our modern homeland (the State of Israel). Classes are conducted in Hebrew.

Yiddish Studies Program

JPPS recognizes the primacy of Hebrew as the language of the entire Jewish people. Nevertheless, in its educational philosophy and orientation, this school has, from its very beginning, integrated the study of Yiddish language and literature into the curriculum of the school. This program of studies is viewed as the vehicle to make the students more knowledgeable and appreciative of this unique and particular part of their Jewish heritage and culture. The course of study for Yiddish language and literature is developmental, with a continuous process of skills and content acquisition.
