Bialik High School’s team of five budding physicists are off to the Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot, Israel, to compete against some of the best young minds from the world over at the final round of the Weizmann Institute’s International Shalheveth Freier Physics Tournament. Their victory in the Eastern Regional Canadian Semi-Finals, hosted by Weizmann Science Canada, and held at Bialik High School, was announced by the Consul General of Israel, Yoram Elron.
The JPPS-Bialik Green Team has won an “Honourable Mention” in the Jewish Telegraphic Agency’s (JTA) first annual Green Beanie Awards. Ten Green Beanies, handed out in recognition of groundbreaking environmental initiatives awarded to organizations and institutions from all walks of Jewish communal life, were selected from hundreds of entrants from all around the Jewish World.

January 6, 2009 (Montreal) — In another sign of continued progress towards an environmentally conscious and waste-free school, Bialik High School, in conjunction with the City of Cote St. Luc, launched an all-encompassing composting program on January 5, 2009, as part of its larger Green Initiative. Composting, or the natural decomposition of organic material, is a time-honoured way of reducing the amount of waste sent to landfills while simultaneously producing a fertilizer that nourishes other vegetation.
December 16, 2008 (Montreal)—Bialik High School announced that Elaine Wisenthal Milech has decided to resign from her position of Principal and Educational Director effective June 30, 2009. She looks forward to remaining a part of the Bialik family, where her passion for education still remains as strong as ever.

What do a rabbi, a public relations intern with the Montréal
Canadiens, a McGill medical student, a CTV news reporter, and a
well-known local culinary personality all have in common? No, that line
is not the opening to a bad joke, but just a part of the lineup of
speakers that were present at Bialik’s Annual Career Day. Spearheaded
by Bialik’s Guidance Department and the Education Committee, the
morning of Thursday, November 6, could have very well changed the lives
of more than 100 Secondary IV and V students, as the lasting message
was one of trusting in oneself.
What we call a "mezuzah" has two parts: the scroll that we put up, frequently in a beautifully decorated container, and the place we put it. I will add one more: the moment we put it up.
