International Baccalaureate® Primary Years Programme

A Global Standard for Education

What Is The International Baccalaureate® (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP)?

Today’s students are learning in a highly connected world where knowledge is constantly developing. The IB-PYP helps them develop approaches and methods of thinking that allow them to thrive in every situation, and prepare them to be active participants in a life-long journey of learning and success.

The Programme is centered on the development of the whole child as an inquirer, both in the classroom and in the outside world. The Primary Years Programme:

  1. Emphasizes learning through inquiry;
  2. Provides a set of organizing themes that help schools to incorporate provincial and international content standards;
  3. Offers balanced programs of knowledge, concepts, skills, attitudes and actions that address the needs of the whole individual child;
  4. Combines best practices and research to create a relevant and engaging educational framework for all children.

How IB-PYP Adds Value to a JPPS Student?

With the integration of IB-PYP into the JPPS curriculum, our students benefit from a holistic approach to learning across multiple disciplines.

This is done through greater inter-connectivity among the faculty and across the curriculum. By highlighting specific events or topics and explaining how they relate to other disciplines, students develop a deeper understanding of the course content, which guides them towards becoming:

  • Inquirers
  • Knowledgeable Thinkers
  • Effective Communicators
  • Risk-Takers
  • Principled
  • Open-minded
  • Caring
  • Balanced
  • Reflective

Example of IB-PYP in Action

When our students learn about the high holidays, they will not only learn about the customs and traditions of Rosh Hashanah in their Jewish Studies courses, but will also learn about bees & pollination in their Science class and the impact of the ecosystem on the world around us.
